What immense pleasure is brought to me
By a Melling scene of tranquillity-
A captured moment of rural time
Of streams and woodland-hills to climb
Warm stone farms and dry-stone walls
Gentle slopes where the curlew calls
- In the balmy heat of a summer day
How sweet the scent of new mown hay
Paths to wander where shy sheep stray
Limestone outcrops in profusion lay
As I sit at home in my armchair
I can almost feel that I am there.
